GDPR-fines up to €200,000. Are your construction cameras compliant?

Every construction camera that captures identifiable people, license plates, or neighbouring properties creates personal data under GDPR Art. 4. Publishing this data without proper anonymization has already led to six-figure fines across the EU.

  • Publishing live streams from webcams can unintentionally show identifiable people, license plates, or private premises risking privacy violations.

  • Generic anonymization tools like blurring or covering either over-mask (destroying utility) or under-mask (still too risky)

These problems can be solved with the avisec Privacy Protector.

Turn your images into GDPR-compliant documentation in 6 steps

Avisec’s proprietary software detects and removes moving objects (people, cars etc.) from the images you want to publish without relying on artificial intelligence.

This way, you can show the progress on your site, without revealing sensitive info. Which means, you are in full compliance with privacy laws while maintaining public transparency.

1. Anonymize

Proprietary software developed by avisec removes all moving objects. Works with any avisec Construction Camera or third-party IP cameras connected to the avisec Cloud Cockpit. As a result there are no people or moving cars are visible.

2. Delay

You can delay the publication of recordings for as long as you like. This way you have time to stop the publication if necessary, and it’s impossible for external viewers to deduce what’s happening right now.

3. Crop

If there are particularly sensitive areas at the edges of your recordings, you can crop them out to make sure no sensitive information ends up on your live-feed. This is often used to protect neighbours or swimming pool areas close by.

4. Cover

If there are sensitive areas in the center of your image, you can cover them up; for example with one static image of this section. This will make the area invisible to viewers and ensure that the webcam complies with privacy regulations again.

5. Dynamic blurring

If sensitive objects such as streets, balconies, patios, or windows are visible in the image, you can blur them. This is a common requirement for panorama webcams with wide viewing angles.

6. Scaling

The higher the resolution of your webcam, the more clearly details can be recognized. To avoid this issue it is possible to publish images in a lower-quality version.

Clean images. Zero data risk. No artificial intelligence needed.

Most construction camera providers anonymize images using artificial intelligence that analyzes every frame, detects faces and license plates, and applies blurring filters. This approach works, but it introduces a dependency on external AI servers, which also leads to additional privacy concerns. What do these external providers do with the collected data?

The avisec Privacy Protector takes a fundamentally different approach. Instead of using AI to blur faces, it compares consecutive image frames and removes anything that has moved. The result is cleaner and your image data never leaves the avisec Cloud.

AI-based blurring avisec privacy protector
Method AI model detects faces and license plates, applies blur filter Frame-comparison algorithm detects motion, removes moving objects entirely
Visual result Blurred silhouettes and colors remain visible in the image People and vehicles are completely removed, the image looks clean
Data processing Images sent to external AI servers for analysis All processing happens inside the avisec Cloud
AI dependency Requires continuous AI model updates; accuracy depends on model version No AI model involved: deterministic algorithm, consistent results
GDPR risk profile Blurred faces may still be identifiable via context. GDPR-guidance considers this pseudonymization, not anonymization Complete removal eliminates re-identification risk. No personal data remains in the published image
Data security Your site images pass through external AI infrastructure Your images stay within one system. Zero external processing

image-access

Optional: You can archive the original images with strict access-control

For many project managers the original images are extremely valuable for project documentation, insurance claims and liability disputes. This is entirely possible, while at the same time publishing a GDPR-compliant Live Feed.

In the avisec Cloud Cockpit you can save different versions of your project-images and regulate access separately for each version:

  • One archive with original, full-resolution images
  • One archive with the anonymized images ready for public sharing

This way your team sees everything they need for analysis and quality control, while the public view stays GDPR-compliant.
